weight of pallet trucks

dead weight of pallet trucks

Lowest dead weight: hand pallet truck

When planning the use of pallet trucks in company intralogistics, the weight of the vehicle plays an important role. The weight of the pallet truck affects which surfaces can be crossed and on which ramps, stages and platforms it can be used. The company therefore always has the pallet truck's weight in mind.

How much does a pallet truck weigh?

The weight of a pallet truck depends on its design. Various standard weights have been established, which can be found in the table:

design Average weight Description
pallet truck 65 kg
  • standard version of a manual pallet truck
scissor lift truck 120 kg
  • has an additional stroke of 800 mm
  • resulting in a significantly higher average weight
weighing pallet truck 110 kg
  • the built-in load cell increases the weight of the construction
  • For versions with printers, another one to three kilograms are added
electric pallet truck 200 kg
  • Electronics, batteries and additional technology increase the average weight significantly
  • It also plays a role whether the driving is done manually or electrically: manual 140kg, electric 400kg
high lift truck 260 kg
  • Carriages with this weight reach a lifting height of about 2,500 mm
off-road pallet truck 200-220 kg
  • the larger transport wheels and the reinforced frame construction increase the weight

Deviations from these values occur when the fork length and width are changed. Longer and wider forks increase the weight and the weight distribution also changes. Longer forks, for example, shift the weight forward if the manufacturer does not use a counterweight.

special lengths

The weight of the pallet truck for models with special lengths varies between 50 and 150 kg, depending on the version. The deviation from the standard weight is due to the changed fork lengths, which are shorter or longer than the standard fork length of 1,150 mm. With a fork width of 540, all of these models can drive under a conventional Euro pallet .

The following table shows the typical dead weight of low lift truck models with shortened forks , such as the short lift truck AGILE :

fork length fork width Weight
600 mm 540 mm 55 kg
800 mm 540 mm 59 kg
950 mm 540 mm 62 kg

This table lists the dead weight of pallet trucks with extended forks , such as the long pallet truck LONG-S :

fork length fork width Weight
1,500 mm 540 mm 82 kg
1,800 mm 540 mm 88 kg
2,000 mm 540 mm 120 kg
2,500 mm 540 mm 123 kg

components

Pallet trucks are made up of a number of different components. These influence the weight of the overall construction. The important parts include the following, which contribute significantly to the dead weight:

  • drawbar
  • lifting cylinder
  • shield and forks
  • steering and load rollers

In this design, the forks are firmly welded to the shield, while other components are inserted and screwed on by the manufacturer. Overall, the structure is designed to be resilient. This means that the pallet truck can safely transport heavy loads of up to 3,000 kg.

The choice of tires, however, plays a minor role in the weight of the industrial trucks . The company itself decides which tires have the best properties for use in the respective warehouse. It is important that the rollers match the surface; weight is not usually a selection criterion.

underground

For practical use in logistics, the type of surface on which the pallet truck is travelling plays a crucial role. A softer and less stable surface requires a lower vehicle weight.

When specifically testing the load-bearing capacity of the surfaces, the vehicle weight and the loads typically to be moved are relevant. The following table provides an overview of the most important industrial trucks and the surfaces on which they can be used:
