definition
The term notification - or Avis for short - refers to advance information about the delivery of goods or about the delivery of payments and invoices. The shipping company announces its exact arrival before the goods are delivered. The announcement can be made by telephone or in writing. The reason for the existence of a notification is the close relationship between warehouse management and the overlapping commercial level.
Attention : The delivery notification is not comparable with the delivery documents! The latter only arrive together with the goods.
A delivery notice usually contains the following information.
- article number
- item quantity
- Weight and/or volume of the item
- time of receipt of goods
Synonyms for notification include avis, delivery notification or ASN (Advance Shipping Notice).
delivery notice
Notification is used, for example, in supply chains when the recipient needs precise information regarding the incoming delivery goods - in this context also called delivery notification.
The delivery notification enables shipment tracking by forwarding agents or parcel services. If there are delays in the delivery process, bottlenecks in terms of personnel or equipment can be avoided using the information about the arrival of the goods in the delivery notification. This means that even items that arrive late can be processed without any problems. Planning is based on the information in the delivery notification.
Possible precautions in case of delayed arrival of goods may be the following:
- Reorganization of the warehouse in order to be able to carry out storage in the event of any space problems
- Inclusion of resources - personnel and equipment - for the handling and further processing of the delivered goods and products
- The orientation of production planning
Notification in payment transactions - payment advice and invoice advice
The payment advice informs the recipient in advance of an incoming payment. It contains the following information:
- invoice date
- invoice number
- payment amount
- Possible cash discount
- Possible credit
A payment advice is particularly helpful for collective transfers. Here, the payment is directly assigned to the corresponding consideration, making it easier for the recipient to understand. The payment allocation in a payment advice is established by a detailed list of all settled items that are affected by the payment (invoices or credit notes).
With the invoice advice, the recipient receives advance information about an incoming invoice. The same data is given here as in the payment advice
