definition

A package (also called collo/kollo) according to DIN 55405 is a unit consisting of several goods that are to be released for shipping. The goods can be packed in different ways: on pallets, in containers, in lattice boxes, in crates and boxes and others.

Each unit is given a unique identifier so that the following information can be accessed at any time during the transport process:

  • Where is the unit
  • Where does the unity come from
  • Where will the unit be shipped

Important: A pallet with several different goods that are not separated during transport is seen as one unit - as one package.

shipping unit

A shipping unit is defined by VDA Recommendation 5002 as follows: "A shipping unit is the smallest unit of goods that is not firmly connected to others and is or can be treated individually as a closed unit in the transport chain from the sender/loader to the recipient. What a shipping unit is is determined by the sender/loader depending on the underlying requirements of the transport, the handling, the type of packaging or securing of the units."

Colli/ Kolli

Colli (Pl) - also known as Kollo/Collo (Sg) or general cargo - is the smallest unit of a consignment of goods . These are parts that are of different sizes and shapes and are available as individual items or packaging units.

A delivery usually consists of several parts. To make it easier to send them, they are combined into a larger package (collo/collo) using a cardboard box or other packaging options.

The quantity of the packages is noted on the consignment note as well as on the delivery note.
