Reusable pallets are pallets that are designed for multiple use and have standardized dimensions. Reusable pallets are usually made of plastic or wood. The Euro pallet is an example of reusable pallets.
Characteristics
- Reusable pallets are more stable than disposable pallets
- Reusable pallets are always manufactured according to a clearly defined standard
- Reusable pallets can be accessed from all four sides using a forklift truck
- Reusable pallets can usually be accessed from two sides using a pallet truck
Types of reusable pallets
The best-known standardized reusable pallet is the Euro pallet . It is manufactured according to DIN EN 13698-1. It is offered by the brands EPAL, WORDL, CHEP and LPR.
The chemical pallet - introduced by VCI and APME - can also be classified as reusable pallets. It is available in 9 different versions: CP1 to CP9.
In the glass industry, for example, the VMF pallet is often used. It is treated according to IPPC/ISPM 15 and can be repaired and reused.
reusable systems
Reusable pallets are traded in so-called reusable systems - there are three forms of trading.
- Pallet exchange: Pallets are exchanged. The exchange is regulated individually, as there are no legal requirements for this. Sales tax may be payable in some cases. Goods are delivered on pallets and the empties - the pallet alone - are returned at a later date.
- Pallet purchase: Pallets are resold and are no longer seen as a means of transport, but as a commodity.
- Rental pools: Pallets are rented and picked up on site from the respective pool partner. CHEP and LPR are the best known and largest providers. The buyer pays for the respective pallet circulation (trip)
environmental aspect
From an ecological point of view, reusable pallets are more sustainable than disposable pallets. The latter usually has individual dimensions, which is why it cannot be used in automated processes.
Interesting: Reusable pallets are not subject to waste disposal laws. They can be reused immediately.
In addition to their classic use as load carriers, pallets can also be used for other purposes:
- As filling material for securing loads in transport vehicles
- As furniture: seating, bed frame or vertical garden
- As a base for storage and to protect against dirt on the floor
- As a platform for crane lifting
