Gitterbox pallet

Gitterboxpalette in use

Gitterbox pallets are suitable for storing or transporting small and sensitive goods, but also for bulky and large goods. Due to their practicality, stability and durability, they are preferably used in industrial logistics . A distinction is made between industrial gitterboxes and Euro gitterboxes and between high and half-high gitterboxes.

definition

A lattice box, also called a lattice box pallet or Gibo, is a loading aid in conveyor technology. The construction consists of steel grids, a shelf and is very stable. The lattice box is held in place by its four feet. Forklifts can pick it up from all four sides. The lattice boxes can be stacked using angle bracket sets.

A lattice box pallet is standardized. It is defined by the following features :

  • 1240mm x 38mm x 970mm (L x W x H)
  • load capacity of up to 1500 mm
  • load of 6000 kg
  • exchangeability

species

Basically, two types of lattice boxes can be distinguished:

  • industrial pallet cages
  • Euro-lattice boxes

Industrial mesh boxes are often used within a company. This type is available in different sizes so that it can be adapted to all spatial conditions.

Euro lattice boxes have standardized, normed dimensions. This makes them ideal for national and international trade. They can also be used as exchange pallets in the European pallet pool

They comply with the following standards :

  • UIC standard 435-3
  • DIN 5155

A distinction is also made between high and semi-high lattice box pallets. The only difference between these two models is that the height of the half-high lattice box is reduced by 50%. The other dimensions remain the same.

Characteristics

material

Gitterbox pallets are constructions made of steel grids and a shelf. If they are not standardized, like Euro gitterboxes, they are available in different sizes. The construction and the materials guarantee stability and durability .

areas of application

Whether production, transport or storage - lattice boxes can be used in a variety of ways! They are particularly suitable for the following activities :

  • Storage of loose items such as tools, machine parts or other small goods such as production waste
  • Storage of sensitive goods such as production parts, paintings, sculptures

Due to their practicality, lattice box pallets are used in a wide variety of areas . Examples:

  • automotive industry
  • parcel and postal companies
  • production facilities
  • logistics
  • transportation
  • agriculture

Advantages and disadvantages

Gitterboxes have the following advantages :

  • They are very easy to stack
  • They are extremely stable
  • Thanks to them, a large number of items can be stored
  • Stored goods are visible from the outside
  • Depending on the model, a whole or half of the grid wall can be folded down. This allows easy access to the loaded goods

The disadvantages of lattice box pallets are the following:

  • They have a very high weight (~ 85 kg)
  • Leeward transports are comparatively complex
  • Stored goods require an additional dust cover or other covering to avoid soiling

labeling

Each pallet cage must bear the year of manufacture and the name of the manufacturer . Other markings:

  • Embossed EPAL symbol in oval
  • Y embossed; number stamped or stenciled
  • EPAL seal of approval
  • Dead weight, load capacity, load, loading space

alternatives

As an alternative to the lattice box pallet, plastic models are often offered. These have a lower weight but are not as stable.

Alternatively, depending on the function , conventional pallets or, for example, parcel trolleys can be used.
