Bay load: load of a pallet rack
In connection with storage racks, especially pallet racks , terms such as bay load, compartment load and capacity are often used. What the bay load means in this context is explained in this article.
Table of contents
definition
The bay load describes the maximum load capacity of an entire shelf bay. This ranges from shelf upright to shelf upright. It is made up of the sum of the individual compartment loads. The corresponding load capacity of the respective compartments can be found in the operating instructions.
compartment load versus bay load
- Shelf load : The maximum weight that rests on an individual shelf or shelf base is called the shelf load. The sum of the shelf loads must not exceed the bay load.
- Bay load : The total load-bearing capacity of a shelf bay, i.e. the load between two shelf supports. The weight of the shelf itself is not included here.
Worth knowing
- A basic requirement for working with pallet racks is the even distribution of loads . These must be loaded accordingly both within a compartment and within a field.
- The sum of the compartment loads can theoretically exceed the capacity of the bay load ! In this case, re-arrangements must be made by reducing the bay load, as the sum of the compartment loads must not dominate the bay load.
