Changing pallet truck rollers

Defective or worn rollers have a negative impact on the functionality of your pallet truck. This can lead to problems when picking up and transporting goods, as well as impairments in stability or maneuverability.

Tires that are damaged, worn or otherwise impaired must be replaced because the rollers are also part of the annual inspection required by DGUV V 68. You can easily replace the rollers yourself:

Steps to change transport rollers

The pallet truck transport rollers are the rollers that are located underneath the drawbar. These are needed to steer the hand pallet truck, which is why they are also called swivel rollers.

1

Prepare for maintenance. To change the rollers on the pallet truck, you must carefully tilt the device to the side. To do this, choose a location with plenty of space and sufficient lighting. The only tools you will need are needle-nose pliers and a flat-head screwdriver.

2

Remove the cover. Use a screwdriver to carefully remove the small plastic cover cap. A flat-head screwdriver is best for this.

3

Remove old rollers. Using needle-nose pliers, you can remove the locking ring and put it aside. The tire can then be pulled off the axle.

4

Install new tires. Ideally, you already have the right rollers for your pallet truck or order replacement rollers in the right size. To do this, take a look at the operating instructions or take measurements of the old tires. To do this, measure the wheel diameter and width, as well as the installation dimension and the axle bore. If possible, get original spare parts from your pallet truck manufacturer. This will guarantee you a 100% fit.

5

Insert spring pins. Reinsert the spring pins, if necessary using a larger mandrel for a larger impact surface. Ideally, you should place wooden blocks between the fork tines and rollers for this step to cushion the impact a little - done! And now the other side.

Steps to change rollers

The rollers on a low-lift truck are located underneath the forks and ensure smooth and stable transport. The loaded goods rest on them, which is why they are also called load rollers.

1

Prepare the pallet truck. To change the rollers on the pallet truck easily, pump the handle of the pallet truck until it reaches its maximum height. This will make it easier to access the load rollers.

2

Turn the pallet truck over. Next, turn the pallet truck 180° and place it upside down. To protect the pallet truck frame and the floor, you can prepare wooden strips on which you can place the pallet truck.

3

Remove spring pins. Remove the four spring pins on each side by gently tapping them out with a hammer and punch.

ImageStep3

4

Change the rollers. After the spring pins have been removed, the axles can simply be pushed out of the rollers. The new fork rollers are now pushed on and positioned.

5

Attach the sealing ring and cover. If the pallet truck rollers have been replaced, all you have to do is insert the sealing ring and attach the cover cap - done! Now the other side.
